"Do I have AIDS?"

One of our HIV positive viewers wrote recently asking if he had progressed from HIV to AIDS. Classifying someone as having or not having AIDS is for the most part an outdated label. While surveillance people use the AIDS classification for monitoring the epidemic, it is not as important in HIV care. That being said, there are conditions that if contracted would be considered AIDS defining and therefore the person would be considered to have AIDS. Here is an explanation of the AIDS defining illnesses.
