HIV Treatment Needs to Start Earlier in the Presence of Hepatitis C
Saturday December 23, 2006
The trend over the last few years is to wait longer to start HIV medications to avoid side effects, long term adverse affects, and to leave more options for later in life. Now researchers at Massachusetts General Hospital have provided evidence that HIV treatment should be started earlier rather than later in people also infected with Hepatitis C. While guidelines suggest waiting to start meds until the CD4 count drops below 300, the clinical data suggests that people living with HIV and Hepatitis C should start Hiv medications sooner; before the CD4 count falls below 300. The thought is that a higher CD4 count may increase the chance of having a sustained control of the Hepatitis C. Read more from AIDSMAP news.Related Items
