China Allows HIV Activist to Visit US
Chinese officials now say they will allow Chinese AIDS activist Gao Yaojie to visit the US to accept an award from a non-profit HIV/AIDS group supported by Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton. The award from the group Vital Voices Global Partnership was to be presented to the 80 year old Yaojie for her extensive work trying to increase HIV awareness in China. Earlier in the month, Chinese officials placed Yaojie under "house arrest" for what they said was for her own protection. They did something similar in 2003 when she was to receive an award in the Philippines. Read more in this article from the Houston Chronicle.Related items
