New HIV Infection Among Mid-Life Gay Men on the Rise

Saturday March 17, 2007
A report from New York City's Department of Health shows that the highest rate of new HIV infection is among gay men 35 to 49 years of age. Having lived through the dealth filled times of HIV in the 80's and early 90's, these men feel isolated and traumatized experts believe. Having lost countless freinds and entire social networks to HIV and AIDS, these men are now feeling the long term emotional affects of HIV. High levels of depression and anxiety make sustaining long-term monogamous relationships very difficult. Friendship and social networks play a big role in health maintanance. Having lived through so many dealths of friends and social contacts has impacted these men's ability to maintain their health long-term. Yet, while experts realize there are problems, few studies have been conducted to identify the long-term affects of HIV and AIDS.
