HPV Vaccine Appears Safe For Men Too

Research from Finland suggests that the HPV vaccine; given to women since being approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2006 is safe for men as well. The research shows that not only is the vaccine safe in men, it generates an immune response in the men who were given the vaccine. HPV is known to cause cervical cancer in women, thus the importance of the HPV vaccine. While less common, HPV is known to cause anal cancer, penile cancer, and throat and oral cancer. But whether or not experts will recommend the HPV vaccine for men remains to be seen. Scientists in Finland have studies planned that when they conclude in 2014 should shed some light on whether or not a recommendation should be made.
