Man Sends HIV Tainted Letter to President Obama

From Mark Cichocki, R.N., About.com Guide   February 28, 2009

In what the US Postal Service says is the second such act of its kind, an HIV positive man allegedly cut his finger, bled all over a letter and sent the letter to President Obama. The Ethiopian immigrant who sent the letter said he was actually a supporter of Obama and even included a ticket to one of Obama's election night parties in Chicago. The man claims the letter, sent when Obama was President-elect was sent to raise awareness of the HIV/AIDS issue around the world. Apparently the man sent other letters to Chicago officials, one that contained an orange drink powder shut down government offices for 2 hours. The man was arrested and charged with "knowingly mailing" the letters containing HIV-infected blood with the intent to kill or injure another.

I think the charge is harsh… it is apparent that mental health is a concern here. Attempted murder is a little much since there really wasnt a risk of infection from old dried bllod.
