Gene Therapy Decreases HIV Viral Load

From Mark Cichocki, R.N., About.com GuideMarch 7, 2009

In a study conducted at the University of California, researchers report that 74 patients treated with gene therapy have shown a dramatic reduction in their HIV viral load. The 74 patients were given stem cells containing an HIV killing molecule. In every patient given the therapy, HIV viral loads were drastically decreased. If gene therapy proves to be safe and effective it could mean a one dose treatment for patients living with HIV. Research continues.

It should be clarified that these stem cells were from the patients themselves not the controversial stem cells from killed babies.
