Using the Web to Stop HIV and STD Transmission

From Mark Cichocki, R.N., About.com GuideAugust 12, 2009

An important aspect of preventing the transmission of HIV and STDs is partner notification. Granted it is not an easy thing to do; telling someone you care about you may have exposed them to HIV or an STD. Awkward to say the least but it could end your relationship. But as hard as it is partner notification is essential to preventing HIV transmission and the spread of STDs. Now an Internet based business has developed a site that helps people notify those they may have exposed to HIV or STDs. The site allows users to send an e-card to a past or current sexual partner to let them know they may have been exposed. Read about the site and see what you think.

So What Do You Think?

So we agree that partner notification is a good thing but what about doing partner notification with an e-card? Is this cowardly? Is it in bad taste? Or is it a novel approach to a necessary part of HIV prevention? What do you think?

Even if it is cowardly at least you are notifying those individuals. I think it is a great idea! Now if only I had a list of email addresses for those I may have exposed unknowingly!

Silence is deadly when it comes to this matter; therefore, I believe that this approach is an excellent one. A coward, according to merriam’s webster is one who shows disgraceful fear or timidity. I think the individual who goes forward is not a coward by far but rather caring!
