White House Officially Announces New HIV/AIDS Strategy

From Mark Cichocki, R.N., About.com Guide   July 15, 2010

The Obama administration has announced the United States' first National HIV/AIDS Strategy. For nearly thirty years HIV has taken its toll on people across the US and around the world. In order to be a world leader in the fight against HIV, the US must have an effective HIV/AIDS strategy of its own. President Obama's vision for an AIDS strategy is as follows:

"The United States will become a place where new HIV infections are rare and when they do occur, every person, regardless of age, gender, race/ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity or socio-economic circumstance, will have unfettered access to high quality, life-extending care, free from stigma and discrimination."

With that in mind, the Obama Administration has met a campaign promise by announcing its National HIV/AIDS Strategy. This article details the strategy.
