Is the Fear of AIDS Fading? Some Experts Say Yes.
Tuesday June 6, 2006
HIV/AIDS has just turned 25. A feared killer in the 80's, many believe that now HIV/AIDS has become commonplace, almost going unnoticed in some populations. While people are living longer, many people are still dying. Yet, according to some advocates there is a complacency among at risk groups such has gay males, resulting in a lack of attention and a view by many that safer sex and precautions are just not as important as they used to be. In fact services for HIV infected people are beginning to fade, a result of less funding due in part to the view that HIV and AIDS is not as big a problem as it once was. Detroit Free Press writer Steve Neavling reports on this troubling trend.
