HIV in Gay Men - The Role of Crystal Meth and ED Drugs
Saturday November 25, 2006
A recent study conducted in California has found that HIV infected men who have unprotected sex with other men are more likely to do so while using recreational drugs like Crystal Meth and Erectile Dysfunction medications such as Viagra and Cialis. While a direct cause and effect can't be made between the meds and HIV, (ED drugs and meth don't cause HIV directly) the use of crystal meth and ED drugs is clearly associated with behaviors that increase the risk of HIV infection. A study published in the Journal of Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndromes stated that men using crystal meth or other drugs such as Viagra and Cialis were more likely to "bareback" (have unprotected sex) than if they weren't using these drugs.
