Having experienced the pandemic from the earliest days—and from the perspective of two continents—has given us the opportunity to see just how diverse, yet inter-connected the issues surrounding HIV can be. HIV is not simply a disease, and managing it cannot be done by numbers, no matter how advanced the sciences have become.
Our goal is to place HIV in the context of the individual, and in a way that is balanced, clear and complete. Because, in the end, that's what this site is about. Providing you what you need to make informed choices—whether you are living with HIV, concerned about your status, or caring for someone affected by HIV.
Dennis is recognized as being one of the first treaters of HIV/AIDS in sub-Saharan Africa. He is also one of the co-founders of the Southern African HIV Clinicians Society, today the largest specialty clinicians' organization in the world. In his role as Chief Medical Officer for LifeSense Disease Management, Dennis oversees the treatment and care of over 12,000 South Africans living with HIV.
James has worked on the grassroots public healthcare level since 1989 in the areas of HIV outreach, client support and education. He held a faculty position with the USAID-funded Foundation for Professional Development, participating in South Africa's historic antiretroviral roll-out as lecturer and nurses' training facilitator. As a journalist, James was the Managing Editor of Biztraveler (an online magazine backed by Comcast Corporation and News Corporation) and a contributor or columnist to numerous consumer health and medical journal publications.
Together, they have contributed to the South African Journal of Infectious Diseases, South African Medical Journal, South African Journal of HIV Medicine, Medical Chronicle, POZ, The Advocate, Everyday Health, OUT, and Exit. They jointly authored the START study and the management of HIV.
