Now that your Fuzeon is prepared, let's learn how to inject the medication.
Difficulty: Average
Time Required: 3-5 minutes
Here's How:
- Choose your injection site.
Choose a site on your upper arm, abdomen, or anterior thigh that is different than your last injection site. With your fingertips, feel for hard bumps where you plan to inject your Fuzeon (See tip 1 below). - Clean the selected area thoroughly with an alcohol pad.
Start in the center of the selected site and wipe in a circular motion outward from the center. Allow the site to air dry. - Draw up the Fuzeon.
Take the small syringe and pull back on the plunger, drawing 1cc of air into the syringe. Before turning the dissolved Fuzeon vial upside down, inject the 1.1cc of air into the vial. Turn the Fuzeon vial upside down, keeping the tip of the needle below the surface of the Fuzeon at all times. Slowly pull back the syringe and withdraw 1cc of the dissolved Fuzeon. Tap the syringe gently to remove any air bubbles that may have gotten into the syringe. - Inject the Fuzeon
Remove the needle and syringe from the dissolved Fuzeon vial. Pinch and hold a fold of skin at the injection site. Pierce the skin at a 45 degree angle. The needle should go 3/4 of the way into the skin. Slowly push the plunger of the syringe, injecting all of the dissolved Fuzeon. Withdraw the needle from the skin and discard in the sharps container. Cover the injection site with a small bandage if needed (See tip 2 below). - If you need to review how to prepare your Fuzeon, follow this link for step by step instructions.
Tips:
- Do not inject in an area with a hard bump, scars, moles or bruises. Never inject near your belly button or in an area that will be irritated by a belt or the waist band of your clothing.
- Keep in mind, your health care provider may instruct you on a different technique to inject your Fuzeon.
