Four years have gone by and MW has found a new lease on life. An undetectable viral load and T-cells greater than 400, MW owes her new health to hard work, support, the love of God and a determination to turn her life around. At one time, her days were filled with drugs, alcohol, and a wish to be dead. Now she feels love and understanding as well as feeling healthier than ever before. Reconnecting with her mother has filled her life with compassion, support and a love she cherishes so much. She has devoted herself to healthy living , exercise, a good diet and a treatment regimen that combines conventional and alternative medications that has worked well for her.

Recently I asked MW by email if anything good had come of her HIV infection. Her answer was a positive one.

"Yes. I am reunited with my family and I no longer have to depend on drugs and alcohol. Now I can love and live instead of die."

And when I asked her for words of wisdom for those newly infected and struggling to live with the disease, she provided me with this very insightful answer.

"You can live with this terrible disease and all you have to do is take care of your self, trust in the Lord, eat right, see your doctor, and take your pills. Remember, there is hope. Look at me. I have made a very good recovery. Believe in your self, stay strong and pray to God. God can and will help you through this time of need."

My job here is to teach but I have realized I learn from everyone I encounter here at About. MW has taught a valuable lesson in our brief meeting...the will to live can be very strong; family and loved ones are to be cherished; and faith can beat this disease.
