Prozac (fluoxetine)

Class:
Serotonin re-uptake inhibitor antidepressant
Form:
  • 10mg and 20 mg capsule
  • 20mg/5ml syrup
Dosage:
  • An initial dose of 20mg/day can be increased if needed but not to exceed 80mg/day.
Instructions:
  • Should be administered once daily in the morning with or without food.
  • The tablet should be swallowed rather than chewed.
Side effects to report to your doctor:
  • anxiety
  • insomnia or somulence
  • nausea / vomiting /diarrhea
  • dry mouth
  • dizziness
  • tremor
  • nervousness
  • seizure
  • rash
Precautions:
  • In order to minimize the opportunity for overdosage, prescriptions for fluoxetine should be written for the smallest quantity of drug consistent with good patient management.
  • Do not give to infants or children.
  • Do not take if pregnant or thinking of becoming pregnant.
  • Do not take if breast feeding.
