How to Disinfect Syringes to Prevent HIV

Refill Syringe With Clean Water

After squirting out the bleach, refill the syringe with clean tap water or bottled water. Fill and squirt out the water several times to remove all the bleach from the syringe.

Important Tip

  • take great care in flushing several times to remove all the bleach before ever using the syringe again
  • do not squirt water toward anyone
  • never reuse the water used to flush the syringe
