Dapsone (avlosulfon / DDS)

Classification:
Used in the treatment and the prevention of PCP pneumonia in those patients unable to take Bactrim.
Form:
  • 100mg capsules
Dosage:
  • 100mg once each day
Instructions:
  • Take with food or milk to decrease the incidence of stomach irritation.
  • If you forget a dose, don't double the next.
  • Notify your doctor of all medications being taken prior to starting Dapsone.
Side Effects to Report to Your Doctor:
  • headache
  • rash and itching
  • nausea/vomiting
  • loss of appetite
  • low red blood cell count (anemia)
  • photosensitivity (sensitivity to light)
  • abdominal pain
Drug Interactions and Incompatibility:
  • Videx EC (didanosine) decreases Dapsone absorption
  • AZT may increase risk of bone marrow toxicity.
