Lopid (gemfibrozil)

Classification:

Cholesterol Lowering Drug

Form:

  • 600mg tablet

Usual Dosage:

  • 600mg twice per day

Instructions:

  • Take medication 30 minutes before breakfast and dinner

Side Effects to Report to Your Doctor:

  • constipation
  • diarrhea/nausea/vomiting
  • skin rash
  • gas
  • heartburn
  • cough or hoarseness
  • muscle pain and weakness

Drug Interactions or Incompatibility:

  • Use with caution in people with gallbladder disease or gallstones, kidney disease, or liver disease.

  • Higher blood levels of gemfibrozil caused by the above conditions may increase the chance of side effects therefore a decrease in the dose of gemfibrozil may be needed in people with such conditions.
