Trizivir (AZT + Ziagen + Epivir)

Trizivir Tablets

Classification:
Nucleoside Reverse Transcriptase Inhibitor (NRTI)
Form:
A tablet containing 300mg of AZT, 300mg of Ziagen, and 150mg of Epivir (blue-green; oval).
Dosage:
One tablet twice each day.
Instructions:
  • May take with or without food.
  • Keep appointments for blood draws to monitor blood count.
  • Never start and restart Trizivir without first checking with your doctor.
Side Effects To Report To Your Doctor:
  • Generalized "sick feeling" or "flu-like" symptoms.
  • Headache
  • Nausea/vomiting/diarrhea
  • Fatigue or weakness
  • Nasal symptoms (runny nose, cold symptoms)
  • Anemia (low blood count) causing such symptoms as:
    • fatigue
    • tiredness
    • weakness
    • shortness of breath
    • pale skin tone
  • Abdominal pain
  • Mental confusion (rare)
Drug Interactions or Incompatibility:
  • Zerit will decrease the effectiveness of AZT and therefore should not be taken with Trizivir.
  • The individual drugs Ziagen, Retrovir and Epivir should never be taken with Trizivir.
Special Warning:
Hypersensitivity reactions - Have been associated with abacavir. Contact you physician immediately if you develop any of the following symptoms:
  • fever
  • rash
  • fatigue
  • nausea/vomiting/diarrhea
  • any flu-like symptoms
