Intelence (etravirine)

Classification:
Non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NNRTI)

Form:
  • 100mg tablets

Dosage:
  • Two 100mg tablets twice daily, for a total of four 100mg tablets each day.

Instructions:
  • Take 2 tablets twice daily following a meal.

  • Swallow tablets whole with water

  • Take the same time each day, as close to 12 hours apart as possible.

  • Store Intelence at room temperature in its original bottle, tightly closed to keep out light and moisture.

Side Effects To Report To Your Doctor:
  • Rash can range from mild to severe; even life threatening.

    Important Warning! - Report any rash to your doctor immediately.

  • diarrhea
  • nausea
  • vomiting
  • abdominal pain
  • fatigue
  • pain, numbness and tingling in hands or feet
  • headache
  • high blood pressure

Special Warnings:
  • Intelence should not be taken on an empty stomach.

  • If you miss a dose of Intelence within 6 hours of when you usually take it, take the dose followed with food as soon as possible. If you miss the dose by more than 6 hours, skip the dose and take your next dose at the regularly scheduled time.

    Important Warning! - never take a double dose to make up a dose that you have missed.

  • Take all your medicines as prescribed without missing doses to achieve the best affect.

Potential Drug Interactions:
  • Intelence can potentially interact with several different medications.

  • It is important to notify your doctor of all medications, both prescription and over the counter, before starting Intelence.

  • The herbal medicine St. John's Wort, sometimes used to treat depression, is known to decrease the levels of NNRTIs and therefore should not be taken with Intellence.

Interactions With Other HIV Medications:
Norvir Boosted Tipranavir, Kaletra, or Viread - studies have shown that if Intelence is taken along with any of these drugs, the blood levels of Intelence decrease significantly. Therefore, use of Intelence along with any of these HIV medications is not recommended.
