While many say there is nothing we can do to prevent a bird flu pandemic, there are things each of us can do to be prepared if a pandemic occurs. They include:
  • Practice good health habits by eating a balanced diet, exercising regularly, and getting plenty of rest.

  • Wash your hands properly with warm soap and water before and after meals, after using the bathroom, and after coughing or sneezing.

  • Cover your mouth when sneezing or coughing.

  • Stay away from others as much as possible if you are sick.

  • Stay up to date on pandemic news using resources such as the television news, newspapers, public health press releases and advisories, the Internet, and your local health department.
