Misusing alcohol can make treating your HIV even more difficult. The hardest thing is realizing you have a problem. This tool will help you identify a problem with alcohol.

Time Required: 10 minutes
Here's How:
  1. Do you lose time from school/work due to drinking?
  2. Is drinking making your life unhappy?
  3. Is drinking causing a change or harming your reputation?
  4. Do you feel guilty or have remorse after drinking?
  5. Has your performance at school or at work declined because of your drinking?
  6. Do you often drink alone?
  7. Do you ever black out of forget what you have done while you were drinking?
  8. Does drinking make you feel strong or overly confident?
  9. Has your drinking negatively impacted your relationship with family, friends, and/or loved ones?
  10. Do you drink and are under the age of 21?
Tips:
  1. If you answered "yes" to any one of the above questions, there is a chance you are have a drinking problem. Monitor your drinking habits for any change that would indicate your drinking is becoming a more serious problem.
  2. If you answered "yes" to 2 or 3 of the above questions, chances are you have a drinking problem. You should talk with your doctor about ways or resources to help stop your drinking.
  3. If you answered "yes" to 3 or more of the above questions, you definitely have a drinking problem and need to seek professional help immediately.
