Question: Should People with HIV Take Flumist?
There is an inhaled form of the flu vaccine called Flumist. Should people with HIV take Flumist? Will Flumist help prevent the flu?
Answer: No! Persons with HIV/AIDS as well as persons with weakened immune systems (e.g. person living with cancer) should never take vaccines that contain live virus. Flumist is one such vaccine. Vaccines with live virus are only approved for use only among healthy persons between the ages of 5 and 49 years.
