Question: Does it matter if I miss a dose of my medicine? What do I do if I miss a dose?
Answer: Yes, missed doses can impact your therapy. When you miss a dose, the amount of drug in your blood decreases, allowing HIV to make copies of itself. The more copies of HIV the more damage that is done to your immune system. In addition, when you miss a dose you provide the virus an opportunity to change (mutate), making your drugs less effective.

If you miss a dose of your medicine, take it as soon as possible. If you don't remember until your next dose is due, DO NOT take twice as much. Take your regular dose and talk with your doctor about suggestions that will help you remember each dose in the future.

Once you start taking your HIV medicines it is important to continue to take them as prescribed each and everyday.
