Question: What is Viral Resistance?
Answer: HIV is a smart virus. The medications we use to treat HIV are good at preventing HIV from making copies of itself. So to get around those meds, HIV can change from copy to copy to make medicines less and less effective. Resistance means that your HIV has changed in such a way that your medications are ineffective in preventing more HIV copies from being made. In other words, resistance allows HIV to make more copies, even in the presence of HIV medicines.
