Marijuana Helps Neuropathy Pain Study Shows

Friday April 6, 2007

A recent study published in the journal Neurology has found that smoking marijuana is more effective in relieving the pain of peripheral neuropathy than is smoking a placebo. This suggests that medical marijuana may be of some help in neuropathic pain relief. The study was conducted as an in-patient study at San Francisco General Hospital between May 2003 and May 2005. Lead investigator Donald Abrams said that this study contributes to the case for the benefit of medical marijuana in some circumstances. David Murray, chief scientist of the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy said the study was "not terribly convincing" due to methodological problems with the study. He also added that "people who smoke marijuana are subject to bacterial infections in the lungs". Read more about this interesting study in the aidsmap news.
