HIV Vaccine No Closer Than It Was 20 Years Ago

During the annual American Association for the Advancement of Science meeting on Thursday in Boston, AAAS President David Baltimore said scientists are no closer to developing an HIV vaccine than they were when vaccine research began, BBC News reports (Briggs, BBC News, 2/15). Court Rules State of Massachusettes Was Wrong In Not Paying For HIV Related Surgery

Saying the state ignored its own rules, the Massachusetts Appeals Court today ordered MassHealth to revisit its decision not to pay for surgery for an HIV-positive teenager who developed a hump on her neck from powerful medications. Because of the state's ruling, the teen's mother deceided to pay the $2000 to have the surgery that doctor's felt was necessary in order for the teen to avoid potentially serious complications.
