Elavil (amitriptyline)

Classification:

Tricyclic antidepressant

Form:

  • 25mg, 50mg, and 100mg tablets

Dosage:

  • 25mg two to four times per day not to exceed 150mg in 24 hours

Instructions:

  • Can be taken with or without food

Side Effects to Report to Your Doctor:

  • blurred vision
  • problems urinating
  • insomnia or somnolence
  • nausea / vomiting /diarrhea
  • dry mouth
  • low blood pressure
  • dizziness
  • sun sensitivity
  • weight gain

Precautions:

  • Overdose of Elavil can be fatal. If a dose is missed NEVER take a double dose.
  • Not to be taken in children less than 12 years old.
  • Do not take if pregnant, breast feeding, or thinking of becoming pregnant.
