GlaxoSmithKline, the maker of the drugs Agenerase (amprenavir) and Lexiva (fosamprenavir) has announced that as of December 31, 2004, Agenerase will no longer be available. Decreasing demand due to the release of Lexiva (fosamprenavir) has prompted the action. Lexiva is a reformulated amprenavir that allows for fewer pills per day and requires no food or fluid restrictions.

If you are currently taking Agenerase (amprenavir) contact your doctor at least two weeks prior to your current prescription running out to see if switching to Lexiva is right for you.

In other news, drug manufacturer Roche has gotten FDA approval for a new 500mg tablet of it's drug Invirase. The new formulation will decrease pill burden from 10 pills per day to 4.
