It's that time of year again...time for West Nile Virus. While experts are not sure if people living with HIV are at increased risk, it makes good sense to take precautions. The key is to limit or prevent mosquito bites. This can be done by:
  • Wear long sleeves and long pants when you are near infected areas
  • Avoid areas with dense woods and standing water
  • use an insect repellant that contains DEET
    • Note that adults should apply DEET containing repellants to children. Also, avoid contact with mouth, eyes, or mucous membranes.
  • prevent mosquitoes from entering your home by keeping doors and windows shut and fixing any screens that may have holes
  • apply new weather stripping to any doors or windows that may have gaps that would allow insects to enter

West Nile Virus can cause serious illness. Taking the proper precautions can protect you from this potential source of illness this summer.
