Agenerase (amprenavir)

Classification:

Due to the popularity of Lexiva (fosamprenavir), Agenerase is no longer available. If you are taking Agenerase, contact your doctor for further instructions.

Form:

  • 150mg capsules

Dosage:

  • Eight 150mg capsules twice each day.

Instructions:

  • May be taken with or without food, but taking with food will help ease nausea.

Side Effects to Report to Your Doctor:

  • Headache
  • Increased cholesterol and triglycerides levels
  • Nausea / vomiting / diarrhea
  • Abdominal pain
  • Rash (should be reported immediately)
  • Numbing sensation of the skin
  • Increased blood sugar (characterized by increased thirst, weight loss, increased urination, and fatigue)

Drug Interactions or Incompatibility:

  • Agenerase also contains vitamin E, therefore vitamin E supplements should not be used while taking Agenerase.
  • The drugs Hismanal, Propulsid, Halcion or Versed should not be taken with Agenerase.
  • Rifampin (a treatment for TB) lowers Agenerase levels in the blood and therefore should not be used.
