Prezista Tablets

Classification:
Protease Inhibitor (PI)

Form:
  • 300mg tablets

  • 600mg tablets

Dosage:
  • Two 300mg tablets with one 100mg capsule of Norvir twice daily.

  • One 600mg tablet with one 100mg capsule of Norvir twice daily

Instructions:
  • Prezista should be taken with food to increase blood levels of the drug.
  • Should be stored at room temperature.

Side effects to report to your doctor:
  • nausea
  • diarrhea
  • common cold
  • skin rash (in rare cases this could be serious)
  • taken with norvir this drug can increase blood cholesterol and triglycerides

Important Warnings!

  • Prezista is a sulfa drug. If you are allergic to sulfa drugs or Bactrim, notify your doctor before starting Prezista.

  • The FDA has issued warnings that Prezista can cause hepatotoxicity (liver damage) in some people. Notify your doctor immediately if you have abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, fatigue, or yellowing of the skin or whites of the eyes.

Potential Drug Interactions:
If you take these drugs, notify your doctor before starting Prezista:
  • erectile dysfunction drugs such as Viagra
  • drugs to treat TB
  • drugs to control abnormal heart rhythms
  • migraine headache medications
  • antihistamines
  • antifungal meds
  • birth control pills
  • methadone
  • buprenorphine
  • St. John's Wort
