Barr laboratories now sells a generic version of Videx EC called didansoine.
Since the advent of the Videx EC formulation, Videx buffered tablets are rarely used in adults.
Dosage:
One 400mg capsule once daily.In regimens that contain Viread, the dose of Videx is lowered to one 250mg capsule once daily.
Instructions:
Enteric capsules- Take on an empty stomach 1 hour before or 2 hours after meals.
- Take 1 hour before or two hours after taking Viread.
- Capsules must be swallowed whole.
- Never open capsules and sprinkle the contents on food or in liquid.
Wafers / tablets / powder
- When taking the wafers, never swallow whole. The wafers must be chewed or dissolved in a liquid.
- Dissolve the powder form in liquid to take.
Side Effects To Report To Your Doctor:
- Fatal and non-fatal pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas) has occurred. Symptoms include abdominal pain, nausea, and vomiting.
- Dry mouth or altered taste
- Nausea / vomiting / diarrhea
- Numbness, tingling, or burning sensation in feet, hands, or fingers
Drug Interactions or Incompatibility:
- Pentamidine may increase the risk of pancreatitis.
- Videx EC has been associated with lactic acidosis whose symptoms include flu-like illness, muscle aches, weakness, fatigue.
