Abacavir (Ziagen) is one of the medications prescribed to treat HIV. While Abacavir is very safe, a small percentage of people can have a hypersensitivity reaction to the drug that can be serious if not recognized. Now there is a way to predict who may be at risk for the hypersensitivity reaction. It's called the "HLA-B5701" test.
